Greetings
We have had another great week at LGES! The first round of testing has kept us busy the last four days. Looking into next week we will continue with mCLASS testing for grades K-3 and third graders will complete the BOG. Let's keep the positive momentum going as we enter into week 3!
As I look at the news and see the path of Irma move away from us I can't help but be thankful. At the same time I am sad for the residents of Florida and other states that are in Irma's path. This weekend is also emotional for many as we approach September 11. When there are so many things going on it can be hard to remember how fortunate we are and everything we have to be grateful for each day. As I reflect on these events and the first two weeks of school I know I am where I am supposed to be and encouraged to be working with such a great group of educators.

Weekly Walk Through
Friday's Walk Through Data: Posted Learning Targets 100% WAY TO GO!
Next Week's Goal: Learning targets are in student friendly language.
During walk throughs this week there were several great things going on...
- Mr. Jones and Mrs. Horner kept instruction going while students were waiting in line for the bathroom. Mr. Jones was prepping his class with questions about math terminology. Mrs. Horner was reviewing details of a story students were reading and asking clarifying questions about events in the story.
- Mrs. Hodges has themed writing notebooks that students use to write about a certain topic. Students have the opportunity to read what other students have written in the notebook as well as add their own work.
- Mrs. Gray has a student greet visitors to her classroom by shaking their hand, telling the visitor his/her name and an explanation of what they are currently working on.

Learning Targets
"Letting students in on where they’re going and what they’re expected to learn can boost motivation and achievement. Sharing a list of learning targets can help, but that list is only useful if the targets are both understandable and assessable by students. " Read more about learning targets here.

Testing
We only have 11 school days left to complete mClass testing. I know there have been some delays in getting everyone in mCLASS due to changes in the mCLASS set-up. Please plan accordingly so that all students will be tested by the September 25th deadline. Remember students may be sick or out of school so please don't wait until the last few days.
LGES Shout Out
Thank you to Mrs. Nash for sharing her instructional modeling video for stations in her classroom! This is such a great way to save time not having to re-explain station directions to students and help make them more independent learners. If you missed it you can see it here.
I heard several teachers talking about their Math Talks with students since our training on Wednesday! These talks should really help students in developing number sense and expose all students to the different ways a problem can be solved!

The words we use with our students are powerful. Remember that an encouraging word not only builds that student, but everyone else around them. |
