Greetings
Wow! What an amazing week watching all of you work your magic. Students have been following the procedures you have modeled and look great doing so! We have had some kinks to work out but everyone pulled together to make sure we all made it! Not only did we have an amazing first day but we also worked through a two-hour delay, first staff meeting of the year, a fire drill and bus evacuation drill. All while teaching our students reading, writing, math, science, social studies, music, physical education, art and media!
I'd say its been a successful week. One I hope you will reflect upon as you look towards how we can continue the momentum of this first week keeping students engaged and learning every minute of the school day.

Instructional Practices
Learning Targets and Differentiation
"Students must understand what they are to know, understand, and be able to do BEFORE learning takes place! It is part of setting the purpose for learning and helps students focus on what is important in the reading/or lesson. Teachers need to reflect on what they want their students to KNOW, LEARN, DO and SHOW in order to plan and deliver effective instruction and learning opportunities." Read more about learning targets here.
When completing lesson plans list the ways you intend to differentiate for your students. Although it takes more work while lesson planning, it is essential when you are in the middle of a lesson and a student is stuck. This article helps with ways that you can differentiate in four areas of your instruction. Looking for resources to help with differentiation? Click here.

How Can You Help?
The devastation seen in Texas is all too familiar to many of us. In our time of need last October many people from around the country sent money and supplies to help those that lost everything in Hurricane Floyd.
We are taking donations to be sent to Texas through Wednesday, September 6. Items that have been requested are...
water blankets paper towels/toilet tissue
baby food/milk diapers clorox/clorox wipes
Walmart & The Red Cross
During the campaign, customers can donate any amount to the American Red Cross at registers in Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs or on Walmart.com and Samsclub.com. By texting WALMART to 90999 customers also have the option to donate $10 via their wireless carrier.* For every $1 donated, Walmart will contribute $2 worth of cash or, at Walmart’s option, needed product to the American Red Cross, up to $10 million. Walmart’s product contributions will be valued at Walmart’s cost. The campaign will run from August 31, 2017 through September 6, 2017.
